The Democracy and Good Governance Coalition (DGGC), representing over 88 Civil Society Organisations held 5 Million Voices for Kwankwaso” Solidarity Walk in Kano on Monday.
Speaking at the Kwankwaso’s residence in Kano, leader of the groups Khalifa Dankadai explained that the event brought together thousands of participants, including civil society actors, youth groups, women organizations, community leaders, grassroots mobilizers, professionals, and supporters from different parts of the country.
The peaceful demonstration, was to allign with the philosophy and grassroots-driven political engagement associated with the leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement.
He noted that the massive turnout and public enthusiasm witnessed during the solidarity walk reflected the growing desire among citizens for people-centred leadership, accountable governance, political inclusion, and leadership structures that remain connected to grassroots realities.
DGGC further stated that the event was not merely political in nature, but a civic expression of support for democratic values, responsible leadership, social justice, youth inclusion, and governance that prioritizes the welfare and aspirations of ordinary Nigerians.
The Coalition also acknowledged the ongoing political realignments and democratic engagements currently shaping the national conversation, expressing optimism that emerging collaborations and reform-driven political movements across the country will further strengthen democratic participation, national unity, and inclusive governance.
The Democracy and Good Governance Coalition reaffirmed its commitment to promoting democratic accountability, good governance, peaceful civic engagement, and people-centred development across Nigeria.
In his short remarks, Chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Rabiu Kwankwaso, commended the organizers and urged them to register with the party in order to achieve electoral victory ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He urged Nigerians to register with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the upcoming elections. According to him, voter registration is the first step toward having a voice in how the country is governed.
Kwankwaso emphasised that without a valid voter’s card, citizens cannot take part in choosing their leaders. He therefore called on eligible Nigerians, especially young people and first-time voters, to take advantage of the ongoing exercise and complete their registration without delay.
