Soludo’s Wife Orders Specialised Care For Abused 10-Year-Old, Demands Prosecution

Anambra First Lady orders specialised treatment for a 10-year-old allegedly scalded by his caregiver in Obosi.

Wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has directed the state Commissioner for Health to ensure specialised medical care for a 10-year-old boy who suffered severe burns after allegedly being scalded by his caregiver in Awada, Obosi.

The child reportedly sustained serious injuries after melted plastic was allegedly poured on his body by his caregiver, Mrs. Chisom Chukwunyere, in circumstances that are still under investigation.

Residents of the area who discovered the boy in distress rescued him and reportedly handed Mrs. Chukwunyere and her husband, Chukwudi Chukwunyere, over to the police.

Reacting to the incident, Mrs. Soludo described the alleged abuse as disturbing and unacceptable, insisting that those responsible must face justice.

“I’m deeply saddened and disturbed by the horrific abuse allegedly suffered by the 10-year-old boy in the hand of his guardians in Awada, Obosi. No child, whatever their crime, deserves to endure such cruelty,” she said.

The First Lady said she had requested that everyone connected to the incident be investigated and prosecuted, adding that Anambra State maintains zero tolerance for abuse against children and women.

She also disclosed that she had spoken with the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, and requested that the child be transferred to a more suitable medical facility for specialised treatment and recovery.

“Following this development, I’ve spoken with the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, and appealed that the child be moved from his current hospital to a more suitable medical facility where he can receive optimum treatment, specialized care, and every support necessary for his recovery.

“I’ve also pledged to take full responsibility for his rehabilitation and ensure that he is given every opportunity to heal physically, emotionally, and psychologically,” she added.

The Anambra State Police Command confirmed that the suspects remain in custody while investigations continue.

Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said further action, including prosecution, would follow the outcome of the investigation.
