THISDAY observed that the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Rivers State, Dr Johnson Alalibo Sinikiem, was present at the collation centre to monitor the process.
Speaking after the exercise, Owokoniran commended party members for conducting themselves peacefully during the primaries.
“We did not even experience any form of rancour, or any infighting, or any problem whatsoever. Contrary to the impression out there that Rivers State is violent, surprisingly, there was no violence. So, congratulations to the Rivers people, especially APC members,” he said.
He expressed optimism that the APC would perform strongly in the 2027 elections across all elective positions in the state.
Also speaking, the Rivers APC Publicity Secretary, Chibike Ikenga, urged unsuccessful aspirants to remain committed to the party.
“For those who didn’t make it, it does not mean they can’t make it tomorrow. Our party has mechanisms to reconcile aggrieved members and ensure unity ahead of the general elections,” Ikenga said.
