The All Progressives Congress has concluded its House of Representatives primary elections in Nasarawa State, with two serving lawmakers losing their bids to secure return tickets ahead of the next general elections.
According to the chairman of the party’s National Assembly Primary Elections Committee, Musa Shuaibu Guri, the exercise was conducted peacefully across the 13 local government areas of the state and complied with the Nigerian Constitution, the Electoral Act and party guidelines.
The affected lawmakers are Mohammed Abdulmumini Ari representing Nasarawa Toto Federal Constituency and Jeremiah Umaru, of Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency both of whom failed to secure APC tickets for another term in the House of Representatives.
Guri described the primaries as free, fair and credible while announcing the results in Lafia.
Our correspondent reports that the names of the federal lawmakers include Mohammed Abdulmumini Ari representing Nasarawa/Toto federal constituency and Jeremiah Umaru representing Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba federal constituency.
Declaring the results in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, the Chairman of the National Assembly Primary Elections committee of the APC, Musa Shuaibu Guri described the exercise as free, fair and credible across the 13 local government areas of the state.
According to him, the committee conducted the exercise in line with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Electoral Act and the party’s guidelines.
Among the winners announced are Mohammed Al-bashir for Nasarawa/Toto Federal Constituency, Daniel Ogazi for Keffi/Kokona/Karu Federal Constituency, Tony Bala Shammah for Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency, and Mohammed Al-Makura who won for Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency through a consensus mode after his rival, Isaac Kigbu withdrew from the race on Saturday.
Guri, however noted that results for the 5th Federal Constituency in the state, Awe/Doma/Keana were still being collated and will be announced in due time.
He further appealed to all aspirants, both those who won and those who lost to unite and work together for the progress of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He said, “I, Musa Shuaibu Guri, Chairman of the House of Representatives Primary Election Committee, hereby satisfy that I am the returning officer for the Nasarawa House of Representatives primary election held on the 16th day of May, 2026.
“For the Nasarawa/Toto federal constituency, Dr. Ahmed Wada Ikaka 1,888 votes. Abdullahi Jibril, 3,728 votes. Honorable Mohammed Al-Bashir, 31,796, while Ari Abdulmumini Mohammad got 9,039 votes.
“Mohammed Al-Bashir having satisfied the requirements of APC constitution and guidelines, and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner of the primary election, and is returned elected as a party House of Representatives candidate for Nasarawa/Toto federal constituency.
“Then for the Akwanga/Wamba/Nasarawa Eggon federal constituency. I, Musa Shuaibu Guri, Chairman of the House of Representatives primary elections committee declare that the aspirants received the following votes.
“Tony Bala Shammah got 38,333 votes, Honorable Jeremiah Umaru got 4,061 votes. Tony Bala Shammah having satisfied the requirements of the APC constitution and guidelines, and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner of the primary election, and is returned elected as a party House of Representatives candidate for Akwanga/Wamba/Nasarawa Eggon federal constituency.”
Guri added that “For Karu/Keffi/Kokona federal constituency, Daniel Ogah Ogazi got 13,083 votes while Danladi Jatau scored 5,873 votes, and Abdulaziz Danladi got 1,067 votes.
“Daniel Ogah Ogazi having satisfied the requirements of the APC constitution and guidelines, and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner of the primary election, and is returned elected as a party’s House of Representatives candidate for Karu/Keffi/Kokona federal constituency.
“For the Lafia/Obi federal constituency. I want to make the declaration that I, Musa Shuaibu Guri, chairman of the House of Representatives primary elections committee, hereby certify that the aspirant, Mohammed Al-Makura got an affirmation vote of 45,000, while Isaac Ali Kigbu withdrew from the contest.
“Mohammed Al-Makura having satisfied the requirements of the APC constitution and guidelines, and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner of the primary election, and is returned elected as a party’s House of Representatives candidate for Lafia/Obi federal constituency.”
