US President Donald Trump says a peace agreement involving the United States, Iran and several Middle Eastern countries is close to being finalised after a series of calls with regional leaders.
In a post Truth Social, Trump said he spoke from the Oval Office with leaders from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Pakistan, Türkiye, Egypt, Jordan and Bahrain on issues concerning Iran and a proposed peace memorandum.
He said: “An Agreement has been largely negotiated, subject to finalization between the United States of America, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the various other Countries, as listed.”
Trump said the discussions included Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Pakistan’s Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir Ahmed Shah, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
He also confirmed a separate conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“Separately, I had a call with Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, of Israel, which, likewise, went very well,” Trump said.
He added: “Final aspects and details of the Deal are currently being discussed, and will be announced shortly.”
Trump further stated that the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes, “will be opened” as part of the agreement.
