Super Eagles Hold Poland To 2-2 Draw In Warsaw, Extend Unbeaten Run To 12 Matches

Nigeria fought to a 2-2 draw with Poland in Warsaw to extend unbeaten streak to 12 matches.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles extended their unbeaten run to 12 matches after battling Poland to a 2-2 draw in an international friendly at the Stadion PGE Narodowy in Warsaw on Wednesday.

Nigeria, seeking to build on recent positive results, weathered early pressure from the hosts, who were eager to bounce back from their 2-0 defeat to Ukraine on Sunday.

Poland threatened as early as the fourth minute when Jakub Kaminski’s close-range header drifted wide, while Robert Lewandowski, Karol Swiderski, Piotr Zielinski and Kacper Potuski all tested the Nigerian defence in front of a crowd of more than 54,000 spectators.

Despite Poland’s bright start, it was Nigeria that struck first in the 23rd minute. Captain Wilfred Ndidi initiated the move with a precise pass to Moses Simon, whose delivery found Terem Moffi for a simple finish. Although the goal was initially ruled out, a VAR review overturned the decision and awarded the opener.

Maduka Okoye produced a fine save to deny Swiderski in the 28th minute, while defender Igoh Ogbu made a crucial intervention late in the first half to prevent Poland from equalising.

Nigeria almost doubled their lead before the break when Tochukwu Nnadi’s angled effort was saved by goalkeeper Kamil Grabara.

However, Poland restored parity in first-half stoppage time when Kacper Potuski reacted quickest in a crowded penalty area to poke home from close range.

The Super Eagles resumed the second half with renewed purpose and created several opportunities through Raphael Onyedika, debutant Abdullah Bewene and Zaidu Sanusi.

Their pressure paid off in the 76th minute when VAR awarded Nigeria a penalty following a foul in the area. Paul Onuachu calmly converted from the spot to restore the visitors’ advantage.

Poland pushed forward in search of another equaliser and came close through a dangerous free-kick, but Okoye made another important save to preserve Nigeria’s lead.

Just as the Super Eagles appeared set for victory, Przemyslaw Wiśniewski unleashed a long-range strike from 25 yards in the closing stages to secure a 2-2 draw for the hosts.

The result extends Nigeria’s unbeaten streak to 12 matches and provides another encouraging performance ahead of next week’s friendly against Portugal in Leiria.

Portugal will use the fixture as their final preparatory match before the FIFA World Cup finals.
