Senate Faults PTF on Covid-19 Policy, Says It’s Damaging to the Economy
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Nigerian Senate is livid with President Muhammadu Buhari over his refusal to sack military chiefs that they say have overstayed in office thereby running out of ideas and culminating in the rampant kidnappings and insecurity including last weekend’s attack on Zabarmari in Borno state where over 43 farmers were killed by Boko Haram terrorists.

Senators while contributing to a motion moved by Senator Kashim Shettima representing Borno Central on the deteriorating security across Nigeria resolved that President Buhari should immediately initiate the transitionary process of phasing out the current overstayed security chiefs and replace them with new ones who have fresh ideas and solutions.

The Senate also resolved that President Buhari should take immediate steps to restructure, remodel and revamp the country’s entire security architecture and provide enough state-of-the-art weapons and equipment for the military to combat the insurgents.

The Senate had in previous resolutions urged President Buhari to sack the service chiefs but were ignored by the executive who hit back at them that such a resolution was not binding on Buhari as sacking or not sacking of the military chiefs strictly falls within the powers of the executive.
