Veteran actress Julie Andrews has made Emmy history again at the age of 90 after winning Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance for her role as Lady Whistledown in Netflix’s Bridgerton.
Andrews received the award at the 2026 Creative Arts Emmy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 6, becoming the oldest woman to win a Primetime Emmy Award. The honour also marks her second consecutive victory in the category for her work on the period drama.
Her latest recognition was for her performance in the Season Four episode, The Waltz, in which she provided the voice of the anonymous society columnist.
Andrews has voiced Lady Whistledown since Bridgerton premiered in 2020. Although she does not appear on screen as the character, her narration has become one of the series’ recognisable elements.
She won the category ahead of Pamela Adlon for King of the Hill, Trey Parker for South Park, Hank Azaria for The Simpsons, Steven Yeun for Invincible and Matt Vogel for The Muppet Show.
The latest award adds to Andrews’ career spanning more than seven decades. She rose to international prominence after starring as the title character in the 1964 musical film Mary Poppins, for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress.
She later starred in The Sound of Music in 1965 and went on to feature in films including Victor/Victoria, The Princess Diaries and The Princess Diaries 2: The Royal Engagement.
Andrews has also provided voice work for animated films including Shrek 2, Shrek the Third and Despicable Me.
Her previous Emmy wins include Outstanding Variety Musical Series for The Julie Andrews Hour in 1973 and Outstanding Nonfiction Series for Broadway: The American Musical in 2005.
While Andrews has stepped back from on-screen acting, she continues to work on books, podcasts and voice projects.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Andrews said, “I think the absolute truth is that I think I’m really past all that now.”
She added, “I’m not completely retired, but it’s a different kind of work that I do these days—books, and I do a lot of recording of podcasts and voiceovers.”
Andrews was not present at the 2026 Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony, with presenter Eric Bauza accepting the award on her behalf.
Her recent projects include Shy, a children’s book co-written with her daughter, Emma Walton Hamilton.
