The Dangote Group has said the company’s 650,000 barrels per day refinery being built in the Lekki area of Lagos state will be commissioned by December 2021.

Edwin Devakumar, the Executive Director, Projects and Portfolio Management of the Dangote Group stated this when he featured on ARISE News on Wednesday.

He said the refinery is much larger than the existing capacity within Nigeria and had hoped it would be completed by the end of last year.

“Yes, we had hoped to complete it by the end of last year and start the commissioning early this year, but as you know the impact of Covid-19 had a major impact on us,” he said.

“We had received goods manufactured in the US, Europe, China and India and almost all the four countries were affected by Covid, so our equipment deliveries got delayed and because of the movement restriction the shipment got delayed, the construction engineers movement also got frustrated.

“So now we have gone far ahead with the construction schedule and by the end of this year we will have mechanical conclusion, and we’ll start the commissioning by December this year.”
