The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, says the FCT Administration has completed 76 of the 107 capital projects awarded under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Wike made the disclosure on Wednesday during a media parley in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he gave a breakdown of projects inherited from previous administrations and those awarded under the current administration.
According to the minister, the FCT inherited 25 projects from the Buhari administration, of which 23 have been completed while two remain ongoing. He added that about eight projects inherited from the administrations of former Presidents Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan had six completed, with two still ongoing.
“This government has awarded 107 projects. Capital projects. As I speak to you. We have completed 76,” Wike said.
He added that the remaining projects awarded under the present administration would be completed before the end of the administration.
“As I speak to you, before we leave office, every project we have awarded under this administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu in FCT would have been completed,” he said.
Wike also said the FCT had recorded a significant level of project execution compared with previous administrations, challenging critics to assess the figures.
“For the first time in the history of our city. No administration … have been able to award that number of projects. I’ve completed that percentage of projects. I challenge anybody,” he said.
The minister said the details of the projects had previously been published, adding that the information was made available to the media.
“I publish it in all the national dailies. It was also in all the media houses,” Wike said.
Wike said the administration was also committed to completing projects inherited from previous governments.
“We inherited from Buhari, 25 projects. We have completed 23 projects. Two are ongoing,” he said.
He added that another set of about eight inherited projects had also recorded progress.
“We inherited from Yar’Adua, Jonathan, about eight projects. Six have been completed. Two are still ongoing,” Wike said.
The remarks came during a broader discussion on infrastructure and development in the FCT, including questions on road projects and the execution of projects inherited from previous administrations.
At the parley, Wike also defended the FCT Administration’s approach to project execution, saying projects should not be described as abandoned simply because they were still under construction.
“So I don’t want to say that anyone has been abandoned. No. Some are still ongoing,” he said.
The minister further said projects inherited from previous administrations were being completed alongside new projects awarded under the current administration.
