The United Nations reported that one of its staff members was killed and another injured while en route to a hospital in southern Gaza on Monday.

The workers were travelling in a UN vehicle to the European Hospital near Rafah when it was struck. The UN did not attribute responsibility for the attack.

The Israeli military stated that an initial inquiry indicated the vehicle was hit in an active combat zone, and they were unaware of its route. The incident is currently under review by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed deep sadness over the worker’s death and extended condolences to their family. He condemned all attacks on UN personnel and called for a full investigation.

According to Guterres, over 190 UN staff have been killed in Gaza since the conflict began.

Israel launched a military campaign in response to a cross-border attack by Hamas on southern Israel, resulting in casualties and hostages.

Since then, over 35,090 people have been killed in Gaza, according to the territory’s health ministry.
