Ukraine has appealed to its European Union partners to channel €6.6 billion available under the European Peace Facility (EPF) into military assistance, arguing that the next six to nine months present a vital opportunity to reinforce its battlefield position.
In a letter dated June 26 and reviewed by Reuters, Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said Ukraine’s overall defence requirement for the year stands at about €136 billion, with the national budget able to provide only around €53 billion of that amount.
The minister noted that Kyiv is expected to receive about €28.3 billion for defence this year through the European Union’s €90 billion loan programme
Fedorov called on EU member states to direct the available EPF funds toward immediate military support, describing the facility as one of Europe’s most effective instruments for strengthening Ukraine’s defence efforts.
He argued that deploying the €6.6 billion now would deliver the greatest military impact, saying timely support would allow Ukraine to make the most of what he described as a crucial six to nine month window of opportunity on the battlefield.
