Switzerland Returns Looted Benin Artefacts, Signs Heritage Pact With Nigeria

Switzerland returns 23 Nigerian artefacts and signs agreement with Nigeria to curb illicit cultural trafficking globally.

Switzerland has returned 18 Benin artefacts and five other Nigerian cultural objects to Nigeria, marking another milestone in the global restitution of looted African heritage.

The restitution ceremony, held in Lagos, also featured the signing of a bilateral agreement between Nigeria and Switzerland to strengthen cooperation in combating the illicit trafficking of cultural property and facilitating future returns.

Among officials involved in the ceremony were Hanatu Musa Musawa, Elisabeth Baume-Schneider, Olugbile Holloway and Dr Alice Hertzog.
