Many Feared Dead, Houses Destroyed As Explosion Rocks Ibadan

Unconfirmed reports say dangerous explosive materials were warehoused at a residential location.

At least two people have reportedly died with fears that the number could increase, with property worth millions destroyed in Aderinola Street, a government residential area of Bodija in Ibadan, sending shock waves across the Oyo State cspital.

Eyewitness accounts claimed the explosion sent shock waves across the ancient city.

Unconfirmed reports say dangerous explosive materials were warehoused at the residential location which left many inhabitants in utter disbelief even as emergency response time and effort failed to yield the desired result.

According to the commissioner for information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, in a statement released on Monday, security service chiefs including para military chiefs and fire operatives have been deployed by the governor to rein-in the spillover from the explosion. 

The statement read “Residents of Ibadan and immediate environ experienced an uncommon explosion about 8pm this evening.

“There are various  interpretations of the incident but it is important for us to state categorically that the state government has taken over and in full control of the unfortunate occurrence in order to mitigate the incident.

“All security service chiefs including para military chiefs and fire operatives have been deployed by the governor to reign-in the spillover from the explosion. 

“His Excellency Governor Seyi Makinde therefore implores citizens to calm down and rest assured that their interests are being looked after.”
