Trump to Address Business, Political Leaders at Davos Forum Remotely

President Trump is set to address leaders at the Davos forum remotely, though discussion topics remain unclear.

US President Donald Trump is set to deliver a remote address to the World Economic Forum on Thursday in Davos, Switzerland.

This marks his first major speech to a gathering of global business and political leaders since taking office.

According to the forum’s schedule, Trump will speak and engage in a dialogue at 11 a.m. Eastern time (1600 GMT), though the topics he will cover remain unclear.

Since his inauguration earlier this week, Trump has showcased strong nationalist tendencies through swift policy moves. He has taken steps to tighten immigration controls, expand domestic energy production, and threatened significant tariffs on the European Union, China, Mexico, and Canada.

Additionally, Trump has announced the US withdrawal from the World Health Organization and the Paris climate agreement.

Among his more controversial proposals is a plan to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America, though other nations are unlikely to recognise the change. Trump has also suggested reclaiming the Panama Canal from Panama, further straining international relations.

In a polarising move, Trump pardoned over 1,500 supporters involved in the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack, an incident that aimed to overturn his 2020 election defeat. This decision has sparked widespread outrage from lawmakers and law enforcement officials who were endangered during the violent riot.

Domestically, Trump is working to dismantle diversity initiatives within the US government and urging private companies to follow suit. This has prompted unease among Davos participants, who are now re-evaluating workplace practices they consider crucial to their organisations’ success.
