President Bola Tinubu has mourned former Delta State Governor Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, who died at the age of 71, describing his passing as “a great loss” to his family, Delta State and Nigeria.
Tinubu expressed his condolences in a statement issued by the State House on Monday, 19 October 2026.
The President praised Uduaghan’s years of public service, highlighting his contributions to Delta State’s development and Nigeria’s democratic governance.
“Dr Uduaghan was a public servant whose leadership was devoted to Delta State’s development and service to our nation,” Tinubu said.
Uduaghan served as Delta State Commissioner for Health and Secretary to the State Government before being elected governor in 2007. He served two terms, leaving office in 2015.
Tinubu said Uduaghan’s administration pursued initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, healthcare delivery and the welfare of residents.
The President added that the former governor remained active in Delta State’s political and socio-economic affairs after leaving office, contributing to democratic governance and public service.
“His passing is a great loss to his family, his community, Delta State, and the nation at large,” Tinubu said.
He urged the people of Delta State to draw strength from Uduaghan’s years of service and the relationships he built across Nigeria’s political and social landscape.
On behalf of his family, the Federal Government and the Nigerian people, Tinubu extended his condolences to Uduaghan’s wife, Roli, his children, cousin and former Delta State Governor James Ibori, as well as his friends and political associates.
“May Almighty God grant his soul eternal rest and comfort all who mourn him,” the President said.
