The Chief Press Secretary to the Benue State Governor, Tersoo Kula, has said the police confirmed an attack on the convoy of Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in the state.
Kula said Governor Hyacinth Alia subsequently directed the police to go after those suspected to be responsible for the incident and ensure they answer questions.
Speaking during an interview on ARISE News on Wednesday, Kula said the state government was initially unaware of the incident until photographs of the confrontation emerged.
“It was completely unknown to the government until we started seeing pictures of what was happening.”
He said the government subsequently contacted the police, who confirmed that the incident had occurred.
“So when he raised the alarm yesterday, we had every reason to doubt whether something evil happened in Benue at all until when we got in touch with the police and they said yes, that incident happened and the governor directed that if such incident happened, the police should go after the people they suspect to get them so they can answer questions.”
Kula said investigators would determine those responsible for the incident.
“Investigators will carry it out to know who was responsible for that.”
