About 10 suspected terrorists have reportedly invaded Aboki community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing one resident and abducting two others in the community.
Kaiama Local Government Area, located in Kwara North, has witnessed a growing wave of attacks linked to armed groups operating around the border areas, with residents repeatedly calling for stronger security presence and sustained patrols.
The suspected terrorists had kidnapped 176 residents of the area in February this year and they are yet to be rescued as at the time of filing this report.
The latest incident according to further checks happened on Tuesday when the attackers were said to have invaded the town in the wee hours of that day before security operatives and local vigilantes confronted the attackers and rescued the kidnapped victims as the gunmen fled.
It was further learnt that, the assailants stormed the community in the wee hours of Tuesday, shooting sporadically and causing panic among residents.
A source closed to the town who sought anonymity told newsmen on Wednesday in Ilorin that the suspected attackers were said to have killed an unidentified man during the raid and forcefully whisked away two other residents.
She said, “The terrorists killed one man whose identity had not been confirmed as of the time of filing this report and abducted two other residents and attempted to escape with them.”
The source added that , “a combined team of security operatives and local vigilantes quickly mobilised and pursued the fleeing gunmen.
“The security operatives, working with the local vigilantes, engaged the terrorists in a confrontation and successfully rescued the two abducted victims.
“The terrorists abandoned the victims and ran away into the surrounding bush.”
Meanwhile, the residents of the town in a swift response of the security team prevented the kidnappers from taking the victims to an unknown destination.
The body of the slain resident was later recovered by members of the community.
The rescued victims were said to have been reunited with their families.
