The former couple appeared at the City of Justice in Barcelona on Tuesday, October 6, to revisit the custody agreement they reached in 2022 following their separation, with the dispute centred on international travel involving their sons, Milan, 13, and Sasha, 11.
Shakira is reportedly seeking an adjustment that would have Piqué travel to Miami to see the boys instead of having them fly to Barcelona during their shorter school breaks.
Her representatives said the request is not intended to reduce the former footballer’s time with his children, but to share the burden of travelling between the United States and Spain more evenly.
“The objective is that the effort of traveling between Miami and Barcelona does not fall solely on them,” her representatives said.
The singer’s side argues that short trips across the Atlantic, combined with the time difference, can take up a significant portion of the boys’ school breaks and disrupt their usual routines.
Under the proposed arrangement, the children would have more time during their breaks for their regular activities, including spending time with family and friends.
The disagreement follows the custody arrangement Shakira and Piqué signed in 2022 after ending their relationship. Shakira subsequently moved to Miami with their sons, while Piqué remains in Barcelona.
The custody discussions come as Shakira continues her ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour’. Her Madrid residency is scheduled to conclude with a final performance on October 12.
Her October 3 Madrid concert also featured a surprise appearance by British singer Dua Lipa and reportedly set an Amazon Music livestream record.
