Real Madrid’s €150m Bid For Julian Alvarez Rejected By Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid have rejected Real Madrid’s €150m offer for Julian Alvarez, insisting the striker’s €500m release clause applies.

Atletico Madrid has rejected has a €150 million (£130 million) bid made by Real Madrid for Julian Alvarez after the Spanish club refused to negotiate below the striker’s €500 million (£430 million) release clause.

The offer was submitted shortly after Real Madrid president Florentino Perez secured re-election, fulfilling a pledge made during his campaign to pursue a high-profile “galactico” signing.

In a statement, Real Madrid confirmed the proposal had been formally presented to Atletico Madrid for the transfer of the Argentina international’s federative rights. Atletico, however, declined the bid and referred the European giants to Alvarez’s release clause.

“After reviewing and evaluating the offer, Club Atletico de Madrid has expressed its gratitude for the proposal… and has rejected it, referring to the player’s release clause,” Real Madrid said.

Atletico Madrid had not issued an official response at the time of writing.

Alvarez joined Atletico from Manchester City in a deal worth £81.5 million in 2024 and enjoyed an impressive campaign last season, scoring 20 goals in 49 appearances. The 2022 World Cup winner helped Atletico finish fourth in La Liga and reach the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.
