Rainbow Coalition Says No One Will Be Victimised In Rivers Reconciliation

Rainbow Coalition assures Rivers political stakeholders that no one will face victimisation or discrimination over past political differences.

The Reconciliation Committee of the Rainbow Coalition has assured members of the political family in Rivers State that no one would be victimised or discriminated against over past political disagreements, as efforts intensify to restore peace and unity in the state.

Chairman of the committee, Senator Magnus Abe, gave the assurance on Saturday, after members of the group met with the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, at the Government House, Port Harcourt.

The meeting was the second between the committee and the governor in about two weeks as part of ongoing efforts to reconcile hitherto estranged political leaders.

Abe said under the emerging atmosphere of peace and reconciliation, all members of the political family would be treated equally, respectfully and without discrimination, irrespective of their past differences.

He explained that the committee, constituted by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, was working out modalities for all members to work together.

According to him, the committee had held several meetings and made significant progress in its reconciliation efforts, adding that the development would be welcome news to Rivers people interested in the unity, progress and prosperity of the state.

“We are all in agreement and we have made very good progress,” Abe said.

He added that the renewed engagement had marked “a significant shift in the political atmosphere of the state,” expressing optimism that peace, which Rivers people had long desired, was finally within reach.

Also speaking, the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), South-south Zone, Dr Samuel Nwanosike, commended Governor Fubara for opening his doors to the committee and allowing members to engage with him as brothers.

Nwanosike described the latest meeting as an indication that the political family had genuinely reunited, promising that the Rainbow Coalition would work to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.

Another stakeholder, Chief Ambrose Nwuzi, said those who supported Governor Fubara had agreed to embrace peace, noting that disagreements were normal in any human society.

Nwuzi said the reconciliation process had substantially been concluded, adding that the final step was for Wike to formally endorse the agreement.

“Our leader has spoken and our overall leader has equally spoken and accepted that there is need for all of us to reconcile. I can tell you that we have reconciled,” he said.

Others at the meeting included the APC governorship candidate in Rivers State, Hon. Kingsley Ogundu Chinda, and Mr Tamosisi Gogo Jaja, among others.
