Oyo APC Unveils Alli As Governorship Candidate, Adelabu Loses Out

Oyo APC has unveiled Senator Sharafadeen Alli as its 2027 governorship candidate, with Adesoji Adedeji named running mate.

The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has unveiled the Ekarun Balogun of Ibadanland, High Chief Sharafadeen Alli, as its governorship candidate for the 2027 governorship election, ending the ambitions of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu.

The party also unveiled Mr. Adesoji Adedeji as Alli’s running mate during a ceremony held in Ibadan on Thursday.

The presentation of nomination forms to the duo came more than a month after the APC conducted its governorship primary election, which Adelabu also contested.

Following the primary, the Oyo APC had dismissed as fake the governorship primary election result circulating on social media and some news platforms, insisting that no official result had been released at the state level and that only the party’s national secretariat was authorised to announce the final outcome after due collation and verification.

Presenting the nomination form, the Deputy National Auditor of the APC, Hon. Gbenga Olayemi, urged party members to rally behind the candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.

“On behalf of the leadership of our great party, I hereby officially present to Senator Sharafadeen Alli the nomination form from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the party’s authentic candidate in 2027,” he said.

In his acceptance speech, Alli, who currently represents Oyo South Senatorial District in the Senate, announced Adedeji, from Ogbomoso, as his running mate.

He described his emergence as the party’s candidate as a victory for unity, perseverance, democracy, enduring peace and prosperity in Oyo State.

According to him, the victory also belongs to every APC member who believes in the ideals of progressive politics.

The Oyo APC Chairman, Otunba Moses Adeyemo, said the party was determined to reclaim power in the state after spending about eight years in opposition.

He urged members to put aside past grievances and work together to ensure victory in the 2027 elections.

The event also featured the unveiling of the party’s candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives and Oyo State House of Assembly seats.
