Ohanaeze in Lagos, Yoruba Council Back Sanwo-Olu for Second Term

They predicted that Sanwo-Olu would be reelected because of his achievements and “the sustainability of peace, unity and development” in Lagos.

As the race for the governorship election in Lagos state draws closer, the Lagos State chapter of Ohaneze Ndigbo and the Yoruba Council Worldwide on Thursday promised to back Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Ohaneze made the promise at a joint press conference addressed by the leadership of the Lagos State Leaders of Thoughts led by Yoruba Council Worldwide and Ohaneze Ndigbo, aimed at calming the political tension that followed the presidential election in the state.
In a statement signed by the President (Yoruba Council Worldwide) Hassan Oladotun, President, Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Mike Kelechi and President, Ohaneze Ndigbo Lagos chapter, Chief Sunday Osai, they predicted that Sanwo-Olu would be reelected because of his achievements and the sustainability of peace, unity and development in Lagos State.
The joint conference which took place in Ikeja, Lagos was coming on the heels of one Okechukwu Isiguzoro who was inciting the public to vote out Sanwo Olu in the forthcoming gubernatorial election.
They believed by calling for the Governor’s resignation, Isiguzoro had crossed the red line of the law in gross violation of the constitution.
“Though there were pockets of crises observed in Lagos State, however, the Governor swiftly swung into action and instantaneously called for a peace and security of the citizenry and their properties to be well protected.
“And the consolidation of all these, of course, rests solely on our law enforcement agents that also spontaneously rise up to the challenge in arresting and taming the ugly situation.”
Meanwhile, the leadership of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) in Lagos, have backed Sanwo-Olu for a second term, saying he has done well in the last four years.
Leaders of PFN, Lagos State chapter, said this after a meeting in Ikeja, the state capital, urging all Christians to vote Sanwo-Olu on March 11.
At the ‘emergency’ meeting were Enyinnaya Okwuonu. Chairman; Mahmood Akindejoye, Secretary; Theophilus Ajose, Director, DPG and other PFN leaders.
The meeting was convened to review the February 25 election and the need to present a common front for the March 11 gubernatorial election.
Ajose said it was the Church that requested for a Christian governor, adding that PFN was solidly behind Sanwo-Olu.
He said: “The church in Lagos State asked for a Christian governor and Governor Sanwo-Olu has done very well in the last four years.
“This gubernatorial election is not about any political party but about the candidate. Mr. Sanwo-Olu has made Christians very proud and has governed the state without any religious bias.
“He is one of us and the Church is speaking with one voice that Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu deserves our support again. I call on all great church leaders across different religious divides – Pentecostals, Orthodox, OAIC, Muslims, religious and Christian organizations to support the gubernatorial candidacy of Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu,” Ajose said.
PFN State Chairman, Okwuonu said though PFN was not partisan and without prejudice to other contestants, Sanwo-Olu deserves a second term to complete the good works he had started in Lagos.

On his part, Akindejoye urged all Christians to be United in supporting Sanwo-Olu for a second term.
