Nigeria Deports 70 Koreans, Egyptians, Others in 2 Years 

It was revealed that the increasing number of Nigerians emigrating has put a high demand on passport issuance.

The minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola has said that In the last 2years, the ministry has deported at least 70 foreign nationals for various infractions .

According to the Minister, the majority of those deported were from the Democratic Republic of Korea, Egypt, Sri Lanka and a host of others.

Rauf Aregbesola said this during the weekly Ministerial briefing in Abuja. Aregbesola said the increased number of Nigerians emigrating has put a high demand on passport issuance while 159 Nigerians denounced their citizenship in 2022.

The minister adds that Nigeria is on track to have a fully digitized passport process before the end of the Buhari administration. 

While acknowledging challenges exist, the minister reveals over 80percent of demands are met with the Nigeria Immigration Service processing and issuing at least 9.31 million passports from 2015 to 2022. 

The minister also spoke on the incessant fire incidents across the country, he says states must take responsibility for ensuring building codes are adhered to, to forestall fire incidents, just as he revealed the country lost over 3trillion naira to fire incidents since 2015.

It was recorded that the Fire service salvaged N25.32tn worth of property within that period.
