The number of people missing in Nepal following Wednesday’s devastating flash floods has risen sharply to 4,247, as rescue operations enter their sixth day.
According to the country’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, the latest figure represents a significant increase from the 2,502 people reported missing on Sunday.
Of those currently unaccounted for, 3,655 are Nepali citizens, while 592 are foreigners.
The missing persons include 933 employees of hydropower sites, many of whom were reportedly working inside tunnels when the floods struck.
Also among the missing are 102 Nepali soldiers, police officers and customs officials.
Meanwhile, the confirmed death toll in Nepal has climbed to 903, up from 781 recorded on Sunday, as rescue teams continue to recover bodies.
In Tibet, the official death toll stands at 16, according to Chinese state media, while 546 people have been reported missing.
