Johnvents Unveils First Sustainability Report, Screens 50,000 Farms For Deforestation Risks

Johnvents launches inaugural sustainability report, screens 50,000 farms and strengthens ESG practices to meet global export standards.

Johnvents Group, a multinational agribusiness and manufacturing company has unveiled its inaugural Sustainability Report, setting out an ambitious roadmap for environmental protection, responsible sourcing and corporate governance in a move that reinforces the growing push for sustainable business practices within Nigeria’s agribusiness sector and global export markets.

The firm said the report demonstrates its commitment to transparent, accountable and sustainable growth, while aligning its operations with internationally recognised Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) standards.

Covering the 2025 reporting period, the report was prepared in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) 13: Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fishing Sectors 2022 Standard. It also incorporates a Double Materiality Assessment aligned with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), providing a comprehensive assessment of the group’s environmental, social and governance performance.

The report consolidates sustainability initiatives across the group’s subsidiaries, including Johnvents Foods, Johnvents Industries, Premium Cocoa Products, Ile-Oluji, and Noble-Eagle.

Founder and Group Managing Director of Johnvents Group, Mr. John Alamu, described the publication as a defining moment in the company’s journey towards responsible and sustainable growth.

“This report marks the beginning of a new phase in how we measure, manage and communicate our environmental and social impact. It reflects our commitment to accountability, transparency and creating long-term value for all stakeholders,” Alamu said.

He added that the company’s next priority would be to deepen governance structures, strengthen implementation of sustainability initiatives, expand responsible practices across its value chain and build a resilient business capable of competing in the global marketplace.

He said the major highlight of the report is the screening of more than 50,000 farms to identify and manage deforestation risks as part of efforts to meet increasingly stringent international market requirements.

The company also disclosed that it had intensified implementation of its 150,000 Cocoa Farmers Empowerment Programme while expanding farm-to-warehouse traceability systems to ensure compliance with the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and Rainforest Alliance certification standards.

“Beyond responsible sourcing, the report revealed that Johnvents established its first greenhouse gas inventory in line with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, strengthened climate governance, enhanced deforestation risk management and advanced implementation of its Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP).”

The company further said it had reinforced its corporate governance framework through board-level oversight and specialised units responsible for responsible sourcing, sustainable finance, carbon management, regulatory compliance, occupational health and safety.

Group Executive Director, Mr. Tarun Chawla, said sustainability has become an essential driver of business resilience and long-term growth.

“Sustainability is now central to business performance and long-term value creation. This report reflects the progress we have made in strengthening our sustainability systems while reaffirming our commitment to responsible operations and shared value for our stakeholders,” Chawla said.
