Palestinian militant group Hamas, in a statement released on Wednesday, expressed its commitment to ongoing negotiations through intermediaries, signalling a willingness to reach a ceasefire agreement with Israel.
The group said, “We are showing the required flexibility in order to reach a comprehensive cessation of aggression against our people, but the occupation is still evading the entitlements of this agreement,” Hamas added.
Hamas emphasized that, despite their efforts, the Israeli occupation has yet to fully adhere to the stipulations of the proposed agreement.
Negotiators from Hamas, along with representatives from Qatar and Egypt, are currently engaged in talks in Cairo. Notably, Israel has not participated in these discussions.
The primary aim of the negotiations is to secure a 40-day ceasefire in the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Islamist group. The proposed time frame is intended to coincide with the upcoming Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, set to commence early next week.
As mediators work towards brokering an agreement, the situation remains delicate, with the hope that diplomatic efforts will lead to a temporary cessation of hostilities for the well-being of the affected populations.
