CBS Announces 2026 MTV VMAs, Kids’ Choice Awards Dates With Los Angeles Return

CBS confirmed the 2026 awards schedule, with both the VMAs and Kids’ Choice Awards set to take place in Los Angeles.

CBS has released key dates for its 2026 awards season, confirming the return of both the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) and Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards to Los Angeles. The announcement forms part of the broadcaster’s wider programming slate for the new television season.

The VMAs will continue its dual broadcast partnership between CBS and MTV for a second consecutive year. The 2026 edition is expected to air live across both coasts from 8–10 p.m. ET / 5–7 p.m. PT, which is 1–3 a.m. WAT in Nigeria. CBS noted that the show will again be staged in Los Angeles, reinforcing the awards’ return to the West Coast after several years away.

The Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards will also extend its collaboration with CBS. The show will air in a 90-minute slot from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. ET/PT, which is 1 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. WAT in Nigeria. The event, produced by Done and Dusted, will celebrate fan-favourite figures across film, television, music, sports, and other categories.

The Kids’ Choice Awards date is later than its usual schedule, shifting from its traditional mid-year slot. The programme has historically been held mostly in the Los Angeles area since its inception in 1993, with only a few exceptions outside the city.

CBS also confirmed dates for other major awards ceremonies in its lineup. The 52nd American Music Awards, hosted by Queen Latifah, will air on May 25. The 79th Tony Awards, hosted by P!NK, is set for June 7. The 84th Golden Globe Awards, hosted by Nikki Glaser, will follow on January 10, 2027. All three events will be broadcast live across both coasts and feature prominent female hosts, according to the network.
