Suspected bandits have attacked communities in Kano State for the third consecutive day, killing at least one person and allegedly abducting the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rogo Local Government Area, Alhaji Audu Fanka Salisu Yahaya.
The latest attack occurred at Beli village, Rogo LGA, at about 1 a.m. on Tuesday, according to a sources who spoke up on condition of anonymity.
The source said the attackers invaded the community, fired several shots and headed directly to Yahaya’s residence, where they reportedly forced their way into the house and abducted him.
“They came in, firing sporadically, and went straight to the chairman’s house. They broke down the door, brought him out and took him away.
“On their way, they shot a young man, who was not more than 25 years old, and he died instantly,” the source said.
The attack reportedly left some residents with gunshot injuries.
Yahaya is said to be a close associate of the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Jibril Ismail Falgore, who also hails from Rogo Local Government Area.
Several residents subsequently took to Facebook to raise the alarm over the attack and appeal to security agencies and relevant authorities for urgent intervention.
The incident is the latest in a string of attacks reported in parts of Kano State since Sunday.
On Sunday, suspected bandits reportedly invaded Chiromawa in Garin Malam Local Government Area, where three people were allegedly killed and an elderly man abducted.
The elderly victim was later reported to have escaped from his captors.
On Monday night, suspected bandits reportedly attacked neighbouring Rantan community in Bebeji Local Government Area, killing two people.
The latest attack in Beli has heightened concerns over the deteriorating security situation in parts of the state, with communities recording killings and abductions on three consecutive days.
Security agencies have yet to issue an official statement confirming the Beli attack or the reported abduction of the APC chairman.
