2027: Resign Now If You Have Political Ambition, Bauchi Governor Directs Appointees

Governor Bala Mohammed orders political appointees seeking elective positions in 2027 to resign within three days.

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has directed all political appointees in the state who have ambitions to contest for any position in the 2027 general elections to immediately resign their appointments within the next three days.

The Governor, who asked them to resign on or before Friday, April 24, 2026, said the directive was in compliance with the Electoral Act 2026 (as amended).

This was contained in a statement signed and made available to journalists by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Mukhtar Gidado, on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the directive aligns with statutory requirements governing the participation of public office holders in electoral processes.

“In compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 (as amended), the Bauchi State Government hereby advises all political appointees who intend to contest for any elective position in the forthcoming party primary elections to resign their appointments on or before Friday, April 24, 2026, if they have not already done so.

“This directive is in line with statutory requirements governing the participation of public office holders in electoral processes and is aimed at ensuring full compliance with the law,” the statement read.

Gidado expressed the government’s appreciation to the affected appointees for their service and contributions to the development of Bauchi State, wishing them success in their future endeavours.

He added that all such appointees are required to hand over all government property in their possession, as well as the responsibilities of their offices, to the appropriate officers within their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
