Despite its role as the originator of rotational presidency in Nigeria, the Peoples Democratic Party may be seriously considering setting aside zoning in the 2023 election and opening up the contest for its presidential ticket to contenders from all six geopolitical zones.

But this has not gone done well with many socio-cultural groups such as the Middle Belt Form, the Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, and Ohanaeze Ndigbo, which have traditionally been supporters of the main opposition party.

Their agitation is coming against the backdrop of PDP presidential hopefuls such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Senate President Bukola Saraki who have been pressurising the party to jettison the zoning arrangement.
