The Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of seven students of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, following an attack by armed bandits on off-campus student residences in the state.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said the students were kidnapped on June 3 when gunmen stormed rented accommodation located on the outskirts of the Low-Cost Area in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.
According to the police, the attackers invaded the student lodges at about 4 p.m. and whisked away seven students to an unknown destination before security operatives could intervene.
Abubakar said joint tactical teams of the police and military personnel attached to Operation Fansan Yamma were immediately deployed to the scene after the incident was reported.
However, he explained that the assailants had already fled with the victims before the arrival of security personnel.
The police spokesman disclosed that one of the abducted students managed to escape from captivity and had since been reunited with authorities.
He assured residents that security agencies were intensifying search-and-rescue operations to secure the safe release of the remaining students and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“The Zamfara State Police Command remains steadfast in its efforts to secure the safe rescue of the abducted students,” Abubakar stated.
