Vinícius Júnior has ended months of speculation over his future by signing a contract extension with Real Madrid until June 2032, the Spanish club confirmed on Thursday.
The agreement was reached a day after the Brazilian forward’s representatives held positive talks with club executives, with Madrid improving their previous contract offer to break a year-long negotiating deadlock.
In a statement, Real Madrid said the 26-year-old would remain at the club until June 30, 2032, praising his impact since joining from Brazil in 2018.
The club said Vinícius has made 375 appearances, scored 128 goals and helped Madrid win 14 major trophies, including two UEFA Champions League titles and three LaLiga crowns.
Negotiations had stalled for more than a year, with Vinícius’ previous deal set to expire in June 2027. ESPN had reported that Madrid were prepared to consider his departure this summer if no agreement was reached, with Premier League champions, Arsenal among the interested clubs.
Vinícius returned to training on Monday following Brazil’s World Cup campaign before his representatives met Madrid officials on Wednesday, including director general, José Ángel Sánchez and chief scout Juni Calafat.
Sources told ESPN the breakthrough came after Madrid tabled an improved offer, increasing their previous proposal of around €22 million per year. Vinícius had reportedly been seeking a package worth about €30 million annually.
Since arriving in Madrid as an 18-year-old, Vinícius has established himself as one of the club’s key players, scoring in two Champions League finals. He finished runner-up for the 2024 Ballon d’Or and was named FIFA’s The Best Men’s Player that year.
