US Navy Successfully Intercepts, Shoots Down 15 Drones In Red Sea Area

This was carried out in response to an attack from Houthi rebels.

In the early hours of Saturday, U.S. Navy ships and aircraft successfully intercepted and shot down 15 uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs) launched by Yemen’s Houthi rebels in the Red Sea region, according to a statement from U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).

The military response was triggered by a large-scale attack orchestrated by “Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists” targeting the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. The assault occurred between 4 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. posing an imminent threat to merchant vessels, U.S. Navy, and coalition ships in the region, as outlined in CENTCOM’s post on X.

The successful interception of the UAVs by U.S. Navy assets reflects the military’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of maritime operations in the area. The incident highlights the ongoing tensions in the region and the persistent threat posed by Houthi rebels, who are known to receive support from Iran.
