Ukraine Strikes Russian Energy Infrastructure As Trump-Brokered Ceasefire Ends

Ukraine launches drone strikes on Russian oil and gas facilities after Trump-brokered ceasefire expires across conflict zones.

Ukraine resumed drone strikes on Russian oil refineries and port infrastructure on Wednesday, two days after a three-day ceasefire proposal by US President Donald Trump expired.

The renewed attacks came as Ukraine continued targeting Russia’s energy infrastructure in an effort to weaken Moscow’s revenues from the sector and undermine its military capacity as the war entered its fourth year.

Russia’s defence ministry said 286 Ukrainian drones had been intercepted and destroyed over multiple regions during overnight operations.

In Russia’s southern Krasnodar region, drone fragments reportedly fell near an industrial facility, sparking a fire in the village of Volna, where the Taman port’s oil products and other terminals are located, according to regional authorities.

In a separate incident, debris from another Ukrainian drone strike triggered a fire at a gas processing plant in Russia’s southern Astrakhan region, which also produces fuel, local officials said.

Igor Babushkin, the regional governor, said on Telegram that all incoming drones were either shot down or neutralised by electronic warfare systems, adding that falling debris caused the fire.

He confirmed that there were no casualties or injuries and said emergency crews expected the blaze to be extinguished within a few hours.

The facility, located near the Caspian Sea, lies approximately 1,675 kilometres from the Ukrainian border, underscoring the extended range of the attacks.
