Stevie Wonder Sues To Evict Ex-Fiancée From Home After 38 Years Rent-Free

Stevie Wonder seeks a court-ordered eviction of his former fiancée, who has allegedly lived in his Los Angeles property rent-free since 1988.

Music legend Stevie Wonder has reportedly sued his former fiancée, Carmen Efferson, to evict her from a Los Angeles property where she has allegedly lived rent-free for nearly 38 years.

According to court documents obtained, Efferson has occupied the property since July 1988 under a verbal agreement that did not require her to pay monthly rent.

Wonder’s lawsuit claims the arrangement has ended and that his representatives were unable to access the property for an insurance inspection despite several attempts during the summer.

His legal team reportedly argued that the lack of access put the property’s insurance coverage at risk. Wonder’s representatives subsequently issued Efferson a notice in July terminating her right to remain in the house.

The filing states that she was expected to leave by August 27. She allegedly remained in the property, prompting Wonder to seek a court-ordered eviction.

The dispute also led to a heated exchange between Efferson and the singer’s legal representatives.

In an email included in the court documents, Efferson accused an attorney of using a “racist cold-blooded white male privilege tone” and demanded that he stop contacting her, using several expletives.

Attorney David Huff reportedly responded that the lawyer who initially contacted Efferson was neither white nor male. Huff also referred to his grandfather’s involvement in the civil rights movement and warned that her refusal to allow the inspection could result in eviction.

Wonder has been married to his third wife, Tomeeka Robyn Bracy, since 2017.

The singer is asking the court to order Efferson to vacate the property. He is also seeking damages and reimbursement for his legal expenses.
