Former Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Acting Chairman, Dr. Robinson Ewor, has admitted that the narrative suggesting former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike prevented Governor Siminalayi Fubara from carrying out his responsibilities was inaccurate.
Speaking during an interview on ARISE News on Thursday, Ewor said information available to him and others during the political crisis in Rivers State had since changed, leading to a different understanding of the situation.
He said, “Perception is different from reality. What I know then and what I know now, they are two different things.”
Explaining the basis for his change of position, Ewor said the earlier belief was that Wike was preventing Fubara from governing, but that subsequent developments showed otherwise.
“When the war started, what was presented to us was that Wike doesn’t allow the government to respond. That was what was presented to Rivers State. But today that story has changed. Even ourselves, we have realized that Wike wasn’t stopping the government from discharging his duties. So the information we had then and what we have now, they are two different things,” he said.
Ewor maintained that the facts available at the beginning of the political dispute were different from those that later emerged.
“The facts before us. The facts before Rivers people then. The facts before Nigerians then. And the facts before Rivers people, Nigerians and Wike supporters today. All the facts there. They are not the same facts,” he said.
Ewor’s remarks represent a departure from the position he previously held during the Rivers political crisis, as he acknowledged that the earlier perception of Wike’s role in the Fubara administration had changed based on what he described as new facts.
