Myanmar Diplomat Breaks Down At UN, Pleads With World To ‘End Our Suffering’

Myanmar’s UN ambassador makes an emotional appeal for international action, accusing world leaders of repeatedly failing his country.

Myanmar’s ambassador to the United Nations, Kyaw Moe Htun, has made an emotional appeal to member states to end their silence over the suffering of his country’s people.

The diplomat, who was appointed before Myanmar’s democratically elected government was ousted in 2021, urged the international community to take action to help end the country’s prolonged conflict. “Stop their silence on our suffering,” he appealed, accusing the international community of having “failed the people of Myanmar again and again.”

During his address, Kyaw Moe Htun held up a scarf bearing the names and ages of Myanmar’s “fallen heroes and innocent civilians,” drawing attention to those who have lost their lives.

His emotional appeal highlighted his frustration with the international response to the situation in Myanmar as he pressed UN member states to help bring an end to the suffering.
