Post Malone premiered a brand-new song and reunited with Swae Lee during a high-energy performance that headlined the closing ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday.
The Grammy-nominated singer opened his three-song set with an unreleased track believed to be titled Chrome Heartbreaker, before treating fans to a string of his biggest hits ahead of the championship match between Argentina and Spain.
Dressed in his trademark denim outfit and cowboy hat, Malone performed atop a towering yellow stage surrounded by fireworks, setting the tone for the tournament’s grand finale.
He followed the debut performance with Wow, his 2019 Billboard Hot 100 No. 2 hit, before welcoming rapper Swae Lee to perform their chart-topping collaboration Sunflower, featured in the animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Malone also wore a white T-shirt bearing the message, I Just Hope Both Teams Have Fun, adding a light-hearted touch to the spectacle.
The entertainment began before Malone’s appearance, with internet personality IShowSpeed performing his song “Champions,” accompanied by drummers and dancers in colourful tracksuits.
The closing ceremony formed part of a broader entertainment programme surrounding the World Cup final, with an 11-minute halftime show featuring BTS, Justin Bieber, Madonna and Shakira, curated by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.
Ahead of the event, FIFA President Gianni Infantino described Malone’s appearance as a defining moment of the tournament. “At a time when sport, culture and global attention converge, Post Malone will deliver a performance designed to celebrate the tournament’s journey and ignite the atmosphere before the world’s attention turns to the two finalists.”
He added. “The closing ceremony will set the tone for a historic FIFA World Cup final, uniting the passion of 48 teams, 16 host cities and millions of fans on one unforgettable stage.”
The pre-match festivities also featured Jennifer Hudson, who performed the national anthem, while Robbie Williams, Nicole Scherzinger and Laura Pausini joined forces to perform the official FIFA anthem, Desire.
Hollywood actor Tom Cruise also appeared during the ceremony, delivering a motivational speech before kickoff as the tournament concluded with one of its most star-studded celebrations yet.
