Spain Crowned World Champions As Ferran Torres Extra-Time Strike Downs Argentina

Ferran Torres scored in the 106th minute, as Spain defeated ten-man Argentina 1–0 to win their second World Cup.

Spain claimed the 2026 FIFA World Cup title after substitute, Ferran Torres struck in extra time to seal a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Argentina in the final at New York New Jersey Stadium.

The final remained goalless through 90 minutes ,despite Spain dominating possession and creating the overwhelming majority of the chances. Argentina goalkeeper, Emiliano Martínez kept the holders in the contest with a series of crucial saves, while a Spain goal was ruled out during regulation.

Argentina’s task became even more difficult when Enzo Fernández was sent off after receiving a second yellow card in stoppage time, leaving Lionel Scaloni’s side to play extra time with 10 men. Spain eventually found the breakthrough in the 106th minute as Torres met Nico Williams’ delivery and fired beyond Martínez to finally break the deadlock.

Argentina threw bodies forward in search of a late equaliser, but Spain stood firm to secure their second World Cup crown and first since 2010, denying Lionel Messi and the defending champions a fourth world title.
