The Portuguese Football Federation has opened disciplinary proceedings against Cristiano Ronaldo over his departure from the national team camp during the recent international break, 24 hours before Portugal’s match against Denmark.
The federation’s disciplinary council also imposed an additional provisional suspension on the Al-Nassr captain on a non-automatic basis and classified the case as urgent.
In an official statement reported on Saturday by Portuguese newspaper A Bola, the federation said the decision followed a deliberation by its non-professional section on Friday. The move aims to establish whether any disciplinary violations occurred in connection with the events reported on Wednesday.
According to the statement, Ronaldo was already subject to an automatic provisional suspension until the disciplinary proceedings were opened.
The council subsequently imposed an additional precautionary suspension that does not apply automatically and designated the case as urgent.
The federation added that it had referred the matter to its disciplinary investigation committee on Saturday. It also confirmed that details of the case would remain confidential until the investigation concludes.
Ronaldo’s departure from Portugal’s national team camp during the recent international break sparked widespread controversy, with reports suggesting a dispute between the forward and coach Jorge Jesus.
In a related development, Portugal’s national team official social media page celebrated Ronaldo’s goal for Al-Nassr against Al-Diriyah in the Saudi Roshn League on Friday, despite the controversy surrounding his departure from the national team camp.
