Veteran Edo politician and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Dan Orbih, has died at the age of 64.
Orbih, a former South-South National Vice-Chairman of the PDP and former Edo State chairman of the party, died on Monday, 31 August 2026.
The death was announced by the Orbih family in a statement signed by Francis Udukhomoi Orbih, Esq., on behalf of the family.
The statement described the deceased as a beloved brother, husband, father and uncle, saying the family received his passing with “profound sadness and a heavy heart” while submitting to the will of God.
Orbih was a prominent figure in Edo politics and one of the PDP’s influential strategists and mobilisers in the state and across the South-South region.
He served for several years as chairman of the Edo State chapter of the PDP, during which he became a key power broker in the state’s political landscape.
He later served as the party’s South-South National Vice-Chairman, further consolidating his influence within the PDP.
Throughout his political career, Orbih played significant roles in major political contests in Edo State and remained a prominent voice within the party for decades.
His death is expected to be a major loss to the PDP and Edo State’s political establishment.
According to the family, Orbih is survived by his wife, Mrs Florence Orbih; his children, Ms Winifred Anwosiobor Orbih and Dr Mildred Omonemi Orbih; his brothers and sisters; and other members of the extended family.
The family appealed to relatives, friends and well-wishers to remember them in their prayers as they mourn the loss.
It said further details concerning the funeral arrangements would be announced in due course.
“May his soul rest in perfect peace,” the family said.
