Nvidia has announced partnerships with several Japanese companies, including Fanuc and Yaskawa Electric, to advance the development of robotics and artificial intelligence technologies.
The announcement was made on Thursday by Nvidia Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang during a media event in Tokyo.
“With AI, robots will become smart, easily adaptable and accessible,” Huang said.
Separately, government-backed technology company Noetra, whose investors include Sony, announced plans to purchase 27,500 Nvidia Rubin chips as it expands its physical AI capabilities.
The move underscores Japan’s growing investment in artificial intelligence and robotics, sectors in which the country has long been a global leader.
Huang’s visit has attracted widespread public attention in Japan, following his popularity in Taiwan, where he has gained celebrity status because of Nvidia’s dominant role in the global AI industry.
Japan is home to several key companies in the global semiconductor supply chain, making the country an important market for Nvidia’s expansion.
On Wednesday, Huang attended an event hosted by gaming company Sega Sammy in Tokyo’s Akihabara electronics district before dining at a traditional Japanese izakaya.
Despite the summer heat, Huang continued his trademark appearance in a leather jacket and drew crowds by handing out bread and tea to journalists and members of the public outside the restaurant.
