Nigeria’s Flamingos Beat Japan 2-1 To Win Historic First U-17 Women’s World Cup Title

Nigeria’s Flamingos defeat Japan 2-1 in Morocco to claim their first FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup title and make African football history.

The Nigerian team secured the historic victory in a thrilling final at the Stade de Marrakech on Saturday night, claiming the country’s first-ever title in the competition.

The triumph also makes Nigeria the first African nation to win the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup since the tournament began in 2008.

The Flamingos booked their place in the final after an impressive campaign, which included a notable victory over Brazil in the semi-finals.

They faced a determined Japanese side in the final, with both teams displaying attacking intent, technical ability and tactical discipline from the opening minutes.

Nigeria took the lead in the 28th minute when forward Queen Joseph calmly converted a well-orchestrated attacking move to put her side ahead.

Japan responded after the break, drawing level early in the second half through a clinical finish from their captain.

With the scores level, both teams pushed for a decisive goal as the contest became increasingly tense.

However, Nigeria found the breakthrough in the 75th minute when Awuwu Bashiru, one of the tournament’s standout performers, produced a spectacular finish to restore the Flamingos’ lead.

The Nigerian side held on to their advantage until the final whistle, triggering celebrations among the players and coaching staff as they secured a landmark victory.

The achievement marks a significant moment for Nigerian and African women’s football, with the Flamingos becoming the first team from the continent to lift the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup trophy.
