Nigeria’s Army Chief Lagbaja Meets Power Minister Adelabu Over N42bn Debt

Adelabu said though the debt will not be written off, but the debt payment will be restructured if there was assurance of regular payment

Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu has assured the Nigerian Army of his readiness to dialogue with distribution companies to relieve the Nigerian Army of its electricity debt burden of forty two billion naira.

The Minister spoke when the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun  Lagbaja visited, appealing for intervention over the debt burden. The Army Chief had described blackouts in army barracks and cantonment as security threats.

The Minister says though the debt will not be written off, but the debt payment will be restructured if there was assurance of  regular payment by the Nigerian Army.

Adelabu further revealed that debt owed by distribution and generating companies is not the only challenge facing the sector but vandalization of power infrastructure which often leads to National grid collapse, is a huge challenge.
