Prominent Nigerian activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore has been shot by the police in the nation’s capital Abuja on Monday.

Human Rights lawyer Femi Falana confirmed the incident to ARISE News over the phone.

“Yes it is true, that’s the information reaching me. He (Sowore) was shot by the police,” Falana a Senior Advocate of Nigeria said.

“I can’t tell what condition he is in now, because I am in Lagos and he is in Abuja,” he added.

Reports however suggest he was shot by a police officer at the popular Unity Fountain in Abuja where they had converged at 8:30 am.

But the police allegedly denied them entry into the place.
