Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, has announced the arrest of the terrorists behind the attack on the St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State.

On June 2nd 2022, some gunmen had stormed St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State, killing no fewer than 40 worshippers. In light of this, security agencies have been in search of the men behind the attack.

During a a parley with media executives at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja, Irabor said the criminals were arrested in collaboration with other security agencies.
In his words, “It is my pleasure to also let you know, that starting with the Owo Church attack, we have arrested those behind that dastardly act.”

He further explained that although he intended to reveal the faces of those arrested, certain on – going investigations have caused him to have a change of heart.

He said “It was my intention to present them to the public, but of course because of certain investigations we’re still carrying out, I had to, on the last count change my mind, otherwise I would have brought them here for you to see them.”

However, he assured that in due time, they will be made known to the public, including all other terrorists who have caused the nation great pain.

“I’d like to say that in due course you will see them, not just those ones but of course, those who have been at the heart of very daring attacks, those who have turned themselves to men of evil to put our nation under the kind of desperation that we’ve had in the past few months.”
Furthermore, he gave credit to the security agencies who assisted in the arrest.

“It is not just only the armed forces that were involved, the DSS , the police and of course other intelligent agencies who were part and parcel of the effort to apprehend these criminals that have put us on our toes.”
