Manchester United will clash with Tottenham in a do-or-die Europa League final after substitute Mason Mount’s stunning brace sealed a 4-1 comeback win over a spirited Athletic Bilbao.
Despite holding a commanding 3-0 advantage from the first leg in San Mames, United were made to sweat at Old Trafford as Ruben Amorim’s side struck first. Mikel Jauregizar lashed home a spectacular 25-yard effort, punishing a costly error from quarter-final hero Harry Maguire and putting the visitors briefly back in the tie.
But the home crowd stayed behind their faltering side, and Mount soon delivered. The midfielder’s sharp turn and clinical finish drew United level, easing the tension and shifting momentum.
Casemiro’s towering header followed by a close-range strike from Rasmus Hojlund put the hosts firmly back in control, before Mount capped his heroics in stoppage time with a long-range stunner. With goalkeeper Julen Agirrezabala caught miles off his line, the ball sailed in to seal a 4-1 win on the night and an emphatic 7-1 aggregate triumph.
United now prepare for a high-stakes final against Tottenham on May 21.
