Liverpool have reached an agreement in principle to appoint Andoni Iraola as their new manager following successful talks, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The move comes days after Liverpool dismissed Arne Slot following an end-of-season review of the club’s campaign.
Iraola, who guided AFC Bournemouth to a sixth-place finish and the club’s first-ever qualification for European football, quickly emerged as Liverpool’s preferred candidate.
Posting on X on Tuesday, Romano wrote: “BREAKING: Liverpool reach agreement in principle to appoint Andoni Iraola as new manager, here we go!
“Exclusive story from Saturday, 100% confirmed: Arne Slot left, and Iraola will lead LFC project, as expected. Talks advanced over last 48h and deal in place.”
Liverpool reportedly moved swiftly to secure the 43-year-old Spaniard after identifying him as the leading candidate to succeed Slot at Anfield.
Other managers, including Sebastian Hoeneß and Pierre Sage, were said to be under consideration, though reports suggest neither was viewed as strongly as Iraola.
Further reports claim Liverpool sought the views of former manager Jürgen Klopp during the process, while details are also beginning to emerge regarding the coaching staff Iraola could bring with him should the appointment be finalised.
The agreement is expected to pave the way for Iraola to take charge of Liverpool ahead of preparations for the new season.
