Music icon Lionel Richie has been hospitalised in an intensive care unit in St. Louis after performing in the city over the weekend, according to reports.
Sources with direct knowledge told the publication that Richie checked himself into a local hospital after his Saturday night performance at The Muny in Forest Park to undergo medical tests.
According to the report, the 77-year-old singer was being cautious, while doctors investigated possible slight dehydration. Sources said Richie was hoping to be discharged on Tuesday.
Witnesses at the concert reportedly noticed that Richie appeared to struggle towards the end of his performance.
During the final song, “All Night Long,” the singer asked members of his team to bring him a chair so he could sit while performing.
The hospitalisation comes about two months after Richie was taken to hospital following another health scare during a concert in St. Paul, Minnesota.
In June, Richie reportedly fell ill onstage during the performance, telling the audience that he felt “dizzy” and “strange” before cutting the show short.
Paramedics subsequently attended to him backstage and transported him to a hospital by ambulance.
Richie has not publicly commented on his latest hospitalisation, and his representatives had not responded to requests for comment at the time of the report.
The singer remains under medical observation as doctors continue their assessment.
